Merchant vessels have the Internet of Things in use to monitor their performance and condition. Satellite connections make it possible to review the information ashore. Studies on all the ways to manage working in the cloud keeps the industry busy.

The Platform Broadband@Sea supports transparency within the maritime broadband market. Together with thirteen suppliers of vessel automation and communication systems and eleven Dutch ship owners a proces of creating an overview of available connections and mapping data protocols was started.

“System integrators have gained experience with integrating data protocols from different suppliers like engine manufacturers and monitoring and alarm systems,” chairman Peter Cortie of the platform explains.
